Rated five stars because of the wonderful waitress

The food was good. Although not the best I’ve had. The price vs quantity vs quality ratio was great. The only reason why I’m giving it 3 stars is because the waitress was one of the rudest I’ve ever seen. I guess she was having a bad day....

Stopped in the middle of a road trip from Prince Rupert to Prince George and was happy to find good service and good food. Excellent tempura and miso soup, plus the sushi was quite nice! Hoping to stop there again on the way back.

My fav resturant for sushi. Cheaper and cool Roll choices. Decor not great. Servers always nice..... owner and chef is a good guy, good food.

Masayama sushi is delicious authentic Japanese food in Smithers BC. Located at the far end of Main Street across from Bovill Square, Masayama offers a variety of Japanese food that will delight your taste buds, from sushi to sashimi to hot entrees. Tasteful decor and friendly staff. Due to the Northern BC location and shipping costs, prices are a bit higher than in the lower mainland - but quality is excellent. It's our number one choice for a dinner out together!

I am SO happy to have been introduced to this sushi place on main street. The skinner plate combo is my favorite! The staff is very friendly and the restaurant environment is inviting! Definitely recommend this place!

Masayama sushi is a great place to eat in Smithers. Japanese born, Mas, serves authentic Japanese sashimi, sushi and other delectables. The restaurant is casual and comfortable and the food is delicious. Because we live in the north, and ingredients are shipped in, it is a bit more pricey than what you would find in the Lower Mainland of BC. All food is made to order and fresh. This is a must stop if you want to experience a little bit of Japan in Northern BC.

I decided to give myself a treat and take me to have sushi. Returning from my visit I decided to go there again.Right as I entered the build was a really awkward greeting. I have no idea why the waitress made it that way. The place was quite. She forget to ask for drinks and when asking what she recommended on the menu, her response was weak. The floor is also very creaky and when people walk pass you it’s like an earthquake!Being there twice I had two totally different experience. The food is very good. I really enjoy their sashimi, paired up with a warm bowl of miso soup.This one waitress really killed my vibe, maybe bring a friend or two. I didn’t want to be too harsh as the food is amazing.

Tried going here twice. First time I waited 40 more minutes than stated for pick up order, second time they forgot to put the order through and never got made, wanted us to wait another 45 mins.

Definitely one of the two best sushi places in town

The food was very... edible was not impressed with the wasabi right on top of our order and the russian volcano actually looked like a volcano hit. I've had better sushi at a grocery store strange because this place was greatly recommended

I dine here every time I come to town which is a couple times a year. I once did a huge take-out order that fed 10 people and everything was wonderful. I love the variety of rolls and some very unique ones worth trying. Smoked tuna sashimi was amazing! Mas is friendly and consistently whips up some great dishes.

The nigiri was thick cut and melt in your mouth tender. The miso soup wasn't as creamy as I prefer but was flavourful with lots of tofu. The chicken curry special was flavourful and a good warmth spicy. The green tea was lovely. I wanted more than the one pot.

Small Japanese restaurant, went for lunch, nice staff, server wasn't fully accustomed to the cuisines knowledge but prompt to as the cooks for help. Food was very good, fresh rolls and a tasty lunch special of chicken, rice, and veggies.

Sweden good, casual atmosphere, owner always there and very friendly. Try the Spicy Wonton Soup!

There are no wrong selections, and the owner is really friendly. Just a great place to go for lunch or dinner.

Despite the 4+ stars noted for this place was very disappointed. Waited 15 minutes to be served initially and then 20 minutes in between for each order to be served. I was served my order half an hour after my family ate. They seemed more interested in catering to the take out orders. Food was fresh but the timing and service was off. Will give this place a pass

some of the best and freshest sashimi I've ever had...The larger rolls I've tried are delicious ...small, cute, restaurant that focuses on the quality of it's food. Heading there tonight!! weeee

Masa Yama's is great. If you are into a more traditional menu and personal service then this is the place. It is a cozy restaurant in a convenient location. I've normally gone with the takeout which is always ready and waiting provided I order ahead.

Had a craving for sushi and Masa Yama is close to the office. The server and the owner were nice and friendly. The server got me a tea pot for my hot water. Overall my experience was fine and the sushi was adequate.I got a lunch combo, which was a reasonable value. The rolls were rolls- okay. The miso soup gets a star on its own, lots of tofu and veggies in it.

Pretty much the same as others say...my weirdness shall compare the outside to the photo with windowless van that's says free candy but really it's super creepy and probably paedophiles inside...but imagine instead of being filled with creepers there is actually delicious free candy as far as the eye can See and it is amazing...so even though the exterior is a creepy van trust me go inside and have the food it's amazing...it's one of the best sushi restaurants I've been too within my price range

Masa, the owner was absolutely kind and a real pleasure to speak Japanese with this evening. He definitely adds his own flair and original mouth watering flavours to each of his dishes.He cooks with his heart and soul, explained clearly as the beautiful presentation of each dish is placed before you. As he prepares each plate with care, the years of experience he has in the kitchen becomes apparent. Each item is picture perfect, and enjoyable to taste. I was delighted to have this creativity placed in front of me after I had asked for some recommended menu items, it made this meal and experience something I will not forget! If you want to experience real Japanese cuisine, there is no doubt you can find it at Masa Yama.Thank you for reminding me how delicious real Japanese food can be!

Awesome sushi

The food wasn't bad, but the table was dirty and I swear to god whoever sat in that booth before me had urine soaked clothes as the smell of urine was overwhelming. Service was lousy.I won't be back and I would caution eating here. It wasn't our first choice for sushi and it won't even be a choice next time.
